I have had the bad habit or keeping tons of CDs in my car. Most of these were written off my computer, but I always forget to label them. The problem is I can never find the right CD I want. So, I decided to find artwork itunes in order to label all my CDs from now on. This will save me time when I’m hunting for the right album, and it will keep me more organized with my music from now on.

I am sorry Jerry, I didn’t mean to sound that way. Europe is not where I would prefer to live, otherwise I would move there. It’s just after reading some of these comments, I am just a little tired of this sanctimonious murmur while our children are obnoxious, crude, dress like call girls to go to school, they listen to songs in their IPods with very vulgar lyrics and quotes..and we get in a huff and puff suddenly over some boring ads.

Flood the world with out-dated material is one effect of this effort. Some books aren’t worth re-distributing and are out-of-print for a reason; they contain out-dated or just plain false information. I suppose we should allow the reader to make that decision, but the marketplace already made that decision when these books went out-of-print and unread for decades, and now the reader has to decide on his own without asistance. What about other inflamitory or dangerous texts that ae moldering unread and justifyably so in libraries. Old biology texts, old physics texts, old religious doctrines, outdated scientific journals and magazine articles. Its possible someone could ‘mine’ these texts for unrecognized truths and answers to current questions, or baseline data, but the sheer volume of worthless material must be enormous if the libararies are just converting materials without meaningful selection. Being out-of-print often means the material is not just old, its now worthless.

The next phase of this effort should be to evaluate and rank the material or flag its place in the information world. Some might not think this is the role of an electronic library, but a librarian’s professional services do include steering the reader in the right direction for sought after information. This aspect of electronic libraries is missing and needed more than ever by the proposed consolidated projects.

Electronoic preservation is just that, preservation, but the role of a library and librarians is greater than mere preservation. There needs to be a wikipeadia-like based tandem software to fulfill that librarian role of contexting and cataloging, and synopsizing the material and collections. Once implimented, there is no reason why the readers can’t communicate in Facebook like fashion, form communities, etc. These library collections need to plug inito the new electronic age and go beyond just warehousing information. The most important part of information is extracting truth from dross, and this valuable collective ‘worth vote’ is lost when a book or publication is resurected from out-of-print to free universal electronic availability. This informatoin needs to be replaced in some fashion and just electronic preservation isn’t enough.
